Retrofit for high-bay warehouse legend

Retrofit for high-bay warehouse legend

In 1989, one of the most modern logistics centers at the time was built in Berlin Tegel. The approximately 40-metre-high high-bay warehouse, with a total of 16 storage and retrieval machines and 70,040 pallet spaces, was used by Herlitz as a production buffer warehouse.

Today, after more than 20 years of operation, the logistics property is part of "Dock 100", a business and logistics park at Borsighafen. The operating company leases the "Logistics Dock" to several clients.

Unitechnik was awarded the contract to replace key elements of the control and warehouse management system with new, modern systems as part of a large-scale retrofit project. S7 controllers and the Unitechnik UniWare control system for material flow and warehouse management are being used. An important requirement for the warehouse management system is the flexible use of the warehouse by several clients.

As the logistics center is in operation and in permanent use, the conversion measure must be implemented "during ongoing operations". Precise pre-planning and thorough testing are therefore absolutely essential to ensure the success of this intervention.
