Logistics made fit during ongoing operations

Doubling the performance and retrofitting the logistics center

Initial situation

Hans Turck GmbH & Co. KG in Mülheim an der Ruhr, is the worldwide sales and marketing headquarters of the globally active Turck group.

The increasing order situation and the strong company growth made it necessary for the automation specialist Turck to double its warehouse capacities.

When expanding the warehouse location, the company not only attached importance to technological optimization, but also to relieving the strain on employees through ergonomic improvements.

Solution

In order to meet the increasing order volume in the future, Unitechnik planned and implemented a completely new material flow concept.

This included three additional miniload aisles with highly dynamic storage and retrieval machines, new bin conveyor technology, goods-to-person picking stations, a lifting beam storage system for order consolidation, and packing stations.

The whole system is controlled by Uniware-LVS with integrated plant visualization. A new RFID system for bin identification and the changeover to Profinet in the area of data communication round off the technical side of the modernization measures, in which many products from Turck were also used.

Each picking station is equipped with a lifting platform as well as anti-fatigue mats that are easy on the joints. The lifting platform allows the workstation to be adapted to the individual body size of the employees.
