Profile production for shipbuilding

Material flow and flexible production control for profile line

Meyer Werft is one of the world market leaders in passenger shipbuilding. But Meyer Werft is also internationally renowned for its ro-ro ferries, gas tankers and animal transporters. The walls of a ship consist of steel plates that are reinforced with profiles. Individual profiles of the correct length, thickness and shape must be supplied to the wall production line just in time.

The production data of the profiles defined in CAD are transferred to the Unitechnik control system 'UniWare'. The control system calculates the requirement for raw parts (standard profiles) and triggers their order. An optimum production process is planned from the raw materials still available and the newly delivered ones, taking into account a large number of conditions. Remaining lengths and new profiles are welded together to a length of 20 m, temporarily stored and then cut to the target length. The different profiles are temporarily stored on shelves in an area-optimized manner using magnetic beams. The subsequent production process retrieves the prepared consignment from the finished profile warehouse.
