Expansion of the logistics center

Capacities doubled and efficiency increased

Initial situation

As a specialist in sustainable plastic packaging, Jokey intended to make its logistics fit for the future as part of its site expansion in Wipperfürth.

The increase in individual packaging solutions and the development of sustainable materials has not only increased production, but also the need for storage capacity.

The aim is also to be able to put together shipping tours more flexibly and quickly as required.

Solution

The new 20 m high automated warehouse in silo design is used as a direct link to production in Wipperfürth and via a truck shuttle for the Fähnrichstüttem site.

The pallets are transported directly from production to the new warehouse via the conveyor system. Sensory contour checks at the goods inwards ensure that Euro pallets with up to 5 cm protrusion on all sides can also be stored without any problems.

In the manual warehouse, there are half-height pallets containing, for example, the lids for the buckets from the automated warehouse.

The UniWare warehouse management system manages the stocks in both the manual and automatic warehouses and reports them to SAP. In the manual warehouse, employees receive their orders via forklift terminals.

For dispatch, the tours from both warehouses are consolidated, sequenced via a sorting loop, labeled and made available on the dispatch lanes, taking into account the unloading sequence.
